Liverymen and Freemen of the City are able to attend City Briefings presented by the City Corporation. These are intended to introduce people to the work of the City, the Lord Mayor and the Court of Common Council. They offer a friendly evening meeting with many other new Liverymen.  These are really informative and all new liverymen should attend one at some time.  To book a place on one of the City Briefings go to:

The dates of the forthcoming City Briefings are:

Tuesday 9 February 2016
Wednesday 5 October 2016

The City is a very fascinating and complex place with lots to learn but much to enjoy and experience.

We have compiled a set of short articles about the City and Livery Companies and their traditions.

Here is a list of phrases, terms and offices in the City that might be unusual or unexplained. We have tried to make them more understandable with some easy descriptions and photographs.

The Court of Common Council is the City of London's primary decision-making assembly and meets approximately every four weeks. It works through committees, like any other authority, but it is unique in that it is non-party political. Its main business focuses on the reports of committees and members questions and motions. The meetings are held in historic Guildhall and are open to the public. The meetings are at 1pm on the dates shown below and the minutes are subsequently published.
