The Master and Liveryman Hilary Miller recently visited Thames Hospice in Maidenhead. The Worshipful Company of Glovers have been supporting Thames Hospice’s Lymphoedema Service since 2019, helping to meet the cost of compression garments for hands and arms that enable patients to be able to live a relatively normal life. Lymphoedema is a swelling caused by the build-up of lymph fluid in body tissue and is a result of inadequate lymphatic drainage.

Thames Hospice provides Lymphoedema Service in East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire. The Master and Hilary were warmly greeted by Frances Greaney, the Trust Fundraiser and introduced to Krystina, the head of Lymphoedema services at the Hospice.

Krystina explained the causes and effects of Lymphoedema and demonstrated some of the treatments used to ease the effects. The Master, keen to learn about the treatments, as you can see bravely tried out some of the gloves and equipment used.

Both Frances and Krystina thanked the Glovers for their on going support and how important it is, now more than ever, managing increasing costs.
