Cross laying Monbday St Pauls Churchyard for glovers website
Monday 8th November, St Paul’s Church Yard

“They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old:
age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning
we will remember them”
We will remember them

Our Master and Clerk led by British Legion Standard Bearers paraded with many other Masters (in order of precedence) from Plaisterers’ Hall to St Paul’s Garden of Remembrance to place a Cross in Memory of those who had lost their lives or been injured or mentally scarred in conflict.

A very moving service led by the Very Reverend Dr David Ison – Dean of St Paul’s with music provided by the Band of the Grenadier Guards and a Choir comprising students from City of London Scholl and City of London School for Girls.
The Lord Mayor, Lady Mayoress and Sheriffs together with representatives from the Armed forces led the way, followed by the Livery Masters.
The event was preceded by Breakfast at Plaisterers’ Hall, returning there (back into the warm) for an excellent Buffet Lunch.

A very special event, of which the organisers should be very proud.

Sunday 14th November
St Paul’s Cathedral

The City of London Remembrance Service (open to all) was attended officially by Their Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress, Sheriffs, City Aldermen and their Partners. The South Transept was specifically reserved for the Livery Company Masters, all gowned. The Master attended with the Upper Warden.

A very moving service
At the end, the Last Post was played with the finishing note at exactly 11.00am when the Bell of St Pauls started to chime 11.00am, followed by 2 minutes silence.
   - normally one is annoyed by the echo in St Paul’s (makes it very hard to hear a Sermon) but the Last Post beautifully played, with the echo, special.

Royal Exchange
At the conclusion of the Service the Masters were promptly ushered out of St Paul’s via the South Door and proceeded to march down the length of Cornhill

towards the Royal Exchange for the laying of wreaths of Poppies at the War Memorial just below the steps of the Royal Exchange.

Already in position were representatives of the British Legion, Local Schools, Representatives from the City Aldermen and Common Councilmen. A few minutes later a Guard’s Band arrived, taking position at the top of the steps of the Royal Exchange. Across from Mansion House came the Sheriffs and their Consorts, Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress together with the Duke of Kent. As the Band played some moving pieces of music (Elgar – Nimrod spine tingling), wreathes were laid (The Livery represented by the Fruiterers) followed by a 2 Minute silence.
The pavements all round were full of people watching and listening to a very “local’ personal service.

Prepsring to present the wreaths for the Glovers Website

The Lord Mayors party retuned to Mansion House to take the Salute as the Band led the British Legion Flag Bearers and the “Old Comrades” past Mansion House.

Off to Guildhall for a very convivial lunch on a damp and cold day.

Whether as Master or not an event well worth attending
