Life on Mars? Liveryman Rick Wakeman Revisits the Red Planet with his new Bowie Tribute Album

Written by: Sonja Garsvo | Stories

It was a great pleasure to hear Glovers' Liveryman Rick Wakeman discussing his career and creative history on The Today Programme on BBC Radio 4 on September 16th.

Rick was speaking about his new Album 'Return to the Red Planet' about to be released, which is his tribute to David Bowie and reflecting on his memorable past collaborations working alongside Bowie - 55 years ago he famously arranged and played piano on Bowie's iconic Life on Mars and the album Hunky Dory.

He has  a unique upcoming concert scheduled for September 24th where he will perform piano pieces for rescued animals at an Animals Asia sanctuary, alongside definitive upcoming autobiography, The Wizard of Prog, which releases in October 2026.

During Covid lockdown Rick kindly gave us a fascinating Zoom interview of his life and works.

The full episode from September 16 is currently available on-demand for a limited time on the BBC Radio 4 Today page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0031kpx. Scroll to time 2:54 to listen to the interview and hear a short preview of his new album.
