The Glovers once again took part in the annual Inter Livery pancake race in Guildhall Yard on 25th February. On this occasion they were also supported by an informal social gathering of 17 Glovers.
The Renter Warden (representing the Master who was unable to take part due to his annual visit to the Safran Guild) won his heat in considerable style and was way out front in the final of the Masters race when disaster struck; on his final toss the wind whipped away his pancake and in the ensuing melee was pipped at the post. He was ably supported by fellow racers; Jamal Awolaja in the Men’s race, Minnie Harris in the Ladies Race and Michael Bridgeland suitably attired as Tyrannosaurus Rex. The team was led and coached in expert fashion by Phillip Griffiths to whom we are most grateful for his excellent organisation.
The day spared us rain although the wind was cold so all racers and supporters then retired to the Guildhall Hall for a well-earned lunch. A full report will be in the Yearbook.
