This year (2025) Heritage Crafts https://www.heritagecrafts.org.uk/craft/glove-making/ listed glove making, particularly in leather, as a critically endangered craft. But despite this the Worshipful Company of Glovers of London is delighted to announce that entries to our Annual Student Awards Competition increased in 2025.
The Glovers’ Annual Student Glove Design Competition Awards presentation and lunch took place on July 2 at The Drapers Hall in the City of London.
The Annual Awards is an opportunity for aspiring student glove makers to showcase their designs.
The theme was ‘Gloves for Keeps’. Emotionally Durable Design is a concept that explores how we can create lasting bonds between people and products to counter the throw-away consumer society. Gloves are rooted in history, symbolism and intimacy so are the perfect place to begin.
The Brief: Design a fashion glove, for keeps that you would like to pass on one day as a family heirloom. It should say something unique about you and your identity, be stylish, timeless and fun. Make it all about you!
Glovers and guests turned out in force to honour the winners of the Awards which were presented by Master and Mistress Glover Alastair and Tiana Collett.
The First Prize of £1000 was awarded to Chi Hin Lawrence Wan, student at the London College of Fashion.
The Second Prize of £500 was awarded to Isabel Torpey, student at The Royal School of Needlework.

The Third Prize of £250 was awarded to Manon Dufau student at the London College of Fashion
The Dents Prize of £500 for the most commercial, creative and innovative design was awarded to Effie Sze Wing Wong, student at the London College of Fashion.

The Silver Salver for the College making the greatest contribution to the competition was won by The London College of Fashion for a third year.
Competition organiser, Past Master Glover John Spanner, thanked his fellow judges Glovers’ Renter Warden Mike Dodd, and Deborah Moore CEO of Dents, and commented.
“Every year of the Awards I am astounded and delighted at the immense creativity shown by the participating students. “This year we have had many great designs to choose from but these in the judges’ opinion showed not just originality but real thoughtfulness about the brief.”
Master Glover, Alastair Collett said: “The Annual Student Awards Lunch is a special way for us to honour the Glove Trade that is at the heart of our ancient Livery, and to support aspiring glove makers. “We relaunched our Student Competition with larger awards to recognise this, and of course to recognise the work that the Colleges do with support from ourselves, in keeping this ancient craft alive.”
