From the Glove Collection - August 2020

I have switched to materials this month and feature doeskin gloves. Below you will see a pair of women's elbow length gloves circa 1685 – 1700, of white doeskin leather stained green now faded to blue, flesh side out, the back of hand and fingers embroidered in pink silk and silver thread in a stylised floral design encompassing raised work silver phoenix, three pink silk rosettes to the knuckles, decorative pink silk embroidered flecks and edging to the fingers, edged in pink silk fringing, 41 cm long.

Part of the Collection donated to the Livery in 1959 by the late Robert Spence. Conserved 1995 – 1999 with help from NHLF.
