Defining Food Poverty – The New Normal was a very informative and interesting dayvheld at Drapers Hall on Monday June 23rd and organised jointly by City Harvest and the Livery Food Initiative. In attendance were those from City Harvest, other interested parties and some of the 70 Livery companies who support this initiative, including the Glovers. Sarah Jopling represented The Glovers Charity Projects Committee at the event.
City Harvest believes in rescuing food, people and the planet by providing food and reducing waste. They do not pay for the food they receive or charge for any that they provide.
Speakers included those explaining how food poverty occurs, how it can be solved and the barriers to achieving this.
City Harvest currently provides 1.2 million meals monthly to 130,000 Londoners across 30 boroughs. The demand is however continuing to increase, reflected by the fact that City Harvest has a waiting list of 100 organisation requesting its support.
The Glovers support City Harvest and the Livery Food Initiative by the provision of gloves required for food handling. #CharityThroughGloves
